Re: New dawn won’t harm anyone, March 14 column.

This is the most disgusting opinion piece some of us have ever read in The Gisborne Herald. The former, I repeat former, CEO of the public servant GDC defames senior citizens like our hero Mike Mulrooney for his well-informed contributions over many years. He only means well, while Judy Campbell targets people like him in what I feel was a sexist, racist, bullying way. It was a disgrace and an apology is due.

The paper is a place to state facts and opinions, and progress democracy. This is not only about a name change, but how it has been conducted.

Ms Campbell writes, “this being the latest in a long list of things that cause them to spit vitriol in the paper”. Also “the letter writers must live very narrow lives to be unconnected . . .” The worst is that she then says, “I’m making a guess here but I get the impression not many of our negative letter writers will see 60 again. Certainly they are white men.”

Wow, how disrespectful can she be, picking on older men? Remember in the Bible “The Three Wise Men?” Maori respect older men for obvious reasons, under the name kaumatua. Pakeha men are no different and are wise too.

Older men are wiser because they have experienced more over more years. They are wiser than you Judy Campbell. They are the kind of people who respect those who employ them.
