Work is under way to establish self-isolation and quarantine (SIQ) facilities along the East Coast.

A Hauora Tairāwhiti spokesperson confirmed the district health board had six campervans readily available as SIQs, which could travel anywhere in the district, including along the Coast.

“We are working with providers on other options. Not all infrastructure for SIQ on the Coast is complete, but work is actively under way.”

A Ngāti Porou Hauora spokesperson said they were taking a multi-agency approach to exploring isolation options for whānau living in Te Tairāwhiti.

“Te Runanganui o Ngāti Porou with Ngāti Porou Hauora are confirming isolation facilities in each community along the Coast, ranging from SIQ in Matakaoa to available units and homes to the hospital ward at Te Puia Springs Hospital.

“We are working closely with our community and hapū leads to find solutions that will work for each community.”

The new facilities are in addition to the 13 SIQs already in Gisborne,
