Gisborne Caravan and Camping Club president Rex Stewart gratefully accepted a defibrillator from Roger Hill of Freemasons NZ and Abercorn-Tuahine Masonic Lodge treasurer John Hayes.
Mr Stewart said the defibrillator would be a wonderful asset.
The club, now more than 70 years old, provides companionship, security and advice to members,
and arranges rallies at venues than can be some distance from emergency services and outside cellphone range.
“We have a large number of single people who have motorhomes or caravans,” Mr Stewart said.
“They and many others are keen supporters of the club but it is doubtful if any of them would camp alone without the security and companionship the club provides.
