Gisborne Caravan and Camping Club president Rex Stewart gratefully accepted a defibrillator from Roger Hill of Freemasons NZ and Abercorn-Tuahine Masonic Lodge treasurer John Hayes.

Mr Stewart said the defibrillator would be a wonderful asset.

The club, now more than 70 years old, provides companionship, security and advice to members, and arranges rallies at venues than can be some distance from emergency services and outside cellphone range.

“We have a large number of single people who have motorhomes or caravans,” Mr Stewart said.

“They and many others are keen supporters of the club but it is doubtful if any of them would camp alone without the security and companionship the club provides.

“The club welcomes those who have access to a motorhome or caravan to attend up to three rallies free of charge before deciding whether or not to join the club.”

Club members enjoy financial benefits in the form of camping and travel concessions.

Mr Stewart thanked Abercorn-Tuahine Masonic Lodge. Lodge membership is open to all adult men and provides friendship and support to its members. Further information can be obtained by contacting the secretary on 867 3772 or 022 129 6271.
