Death in Wairoa house fire

THE occupant of a house died in a fire in Wairoa last night. Police and Fire and Emergency NZ staff were called to the house in Kiwi Road, Wairoa.

The scene was guarded overnight. Examination of the house remains will be undertaken again this morning.

Police are unable to release the name of the deceased until all next of kin have been advised.

This was one of two deaths in house fires in the past 24 hours. A man died in a fire at a home in Rustic Ave, Mt Roskill, at 6am.

Inspector Jason Greenhalgh, of Auckland, said the death was not suspicious.
