NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said access will open up for traffic through State Highway 2, Waioweka Gorge, from Monday. Pictured is the dramatic Goldsmith slip site.

Hourly convoys will be removed from the Waioweka Gorge next week, with the road open daily under stop/go traffic management.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi reported progress at the Goldsmith slip site in an update on Friday.

Night works can now begin from Monday.

“This is a strong step forward in providing less restrictive access through the gorge.

“It will significantly increase productivity and allow the road to remain open during the day under stop/go traffic management, without the need for convoy movements,” the update read.
