THE cyclist who died in collision with a truck on Awapuni Road on Wednesday morning was 42-year-old Jason Duncan Houia of Gisborne.
His death is in the hands of the coroner.
Mr Houia was riding his mountain bike on SH35 when he struck the front of a truck opposite the
speedway at around 9am Wednesday morning. Police said he died instantly.
“The circumstances of the collision were completely beyond the truck driver’s control and he continues to be traumatised by what happened,” said a spokesman for the police serious crash investigation.
“The driver continues to get help from Victim Support. So, too, do the family of Mr Houia,” the spokesman said.
