Opinion

Just for the record Clive I have two university degrees and in another life was co-director along with Ron Monten and Doug Harris of “Creative Source”, a successful Newmarket advertising agency. Doug is now running Harris Advertising in Honolulu — Google him. Ron Monten lost his battle with cancer in 2007.

My greatest success, though, has been sheer survival.

From my Irish ancestors I've inherited the “starving” gene. My body can't absorb nutrients normally. My nephew Hemi gave up the battle and took his own life, because chronic malnutrition is so very hard to live with. Doctors ignore you. I weighed 37 kilos when finally diagnosed, three months after Hemi died.

I know how hard-earned my achievements have been and don't need your approbation or otherwise.

One advantage of being so small has been the necessity of becoming highly skilled with a needle. It's my other great love aside from growing native plants and these days it's my pleasure to make things to order for a wide variety of friends and family.

In fact, I'm so far from being jealous that I venture to suggest 24 hours with me would greatly improve your wardrobe, your house and garden and your surrounding environment.
