A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

Police are investigating after two people were injured when a vehicle crashed at Deep Creek Bridge at Ruakituri and dropped 20 metres.

The crash was reported at about 11.50am on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

“Of the two occupants, one suffered minor injuries while the other was more seriously injured. They managed to climb back to the road, where a passing motorist stopped to help them.”

One patient was taken to hospital by the Trust Tairāwhiti Rescue Helicopter. A 15-year-old male was treated and discharged that day.

“A second person was assessed and treated at the scene,” a St John spokesperson said.
