Rain falls in the city centre. Rainfall figures across Tairāwhiti for the past seven days as of Thursday ranged from 9mm at Wheatstone Rd in Gisborne to 303mm at Raukumara Station in the East Coast ranges.

The rain that came the region’s way across the past week boosted East Coast water tanks and farm dam supplies, but did not do a lot for gardens and farming operations around Gisborne.

Seven-day figures across Gisborne District Council rainfall gauges paint a contrasting picture.

Raukumara Station in the East Coast ranges topped the table over the past week – recording 303 millimetres.

Raparapaririki, inland from Ruatōria, was next on 137mm, while Waikura Valley received 135mm, Oweka 101mm, Pakihiroa 81mm, Poroporo 79mm, Wharekahika 74mm and Karakatuwhero 65mm.

The rain also fell in the middle zone of the coast.

Ruatoria got 64mm, Puketoro 56mm, Te Puia Springs 45mm, Tokomaru Bay 42mm and Mata 38mm.

Below that point on the coast, the numbers gradually dropped away, with Hikuwai and Tolaga Bay receiving 25mm, Panikau 23mm and Mangaheia 18mm.

Closer to Gisborne on the coast, Waimata recorded 19mm, Pouawa 13mm and Tatapouri Hill 8mm.

Rural areas inland from Gisborne did okay – Matawai receiving 33mm, Wharekopae School 62mm, Wharekopae River 24mm, Waipaoa 24mm, Ngatapa 20mm and Waerenga-o-Kuri 17mm.

Mangapoike collected 43mm and the Whareratas 38mm.

Gisborne city had an airport reading of 15mm in the past seven days, Stout St 16mm, Waikanae Creek 11mm, Paraone Rd 11mm and Wheatstone Rd 9mm.
