Mayor Rehette Stoltz made a passionate shout-out about why people should come to Gisborne over the holiday season when she appeared on the NewstalkZB breakfast programme yesterday.

She told announcer Tim Dower that while this has been a tough year for the region, “We are open for business — come and spend your Christmas and New Year with us!”

In the three-to-four-minute-long interview, the Mayor pointed to major features like the “Fire in the Sky” fireworks show on New Year’s day, the wineries, cycle tours, and the beaches.

“People want to enjoy our beautiful beaches and our sunshine,” she said.

“There are so many hidden gems in our Tairāwhiti.”

The Mayor also highlighted the city beach front around the Dawson Building Midway Surf Life Saving Community Hub and the new Kiwa Pools.

“That whole area is humming with activity.”
