Coast residents facing weekend without power

About 100 residents inland from Tolaga Bay, near Ruatoria and further up the East Coast could be without power over the weekend and possibly into the beginning of next week.

This is due to multiple major faults caused by two recent storms.

Trees have fallen on to lines and taken out poles in mainly remote, difficult to access, areas.

Eastland Network apologises for the situation but has crews working up the East Coast and in the Wairoa region.

“We’re doing everything we can to fix all the faults, safely and as quickly as possible,” Eastland Nework said in a statement.

Some crews have worked away from home since last week’s storm and will take a short break.

Others will continue to work throughout the weekend.

On Monday, Eastland Network will bring in extra crews from Hawke’s Bay and the Bay of Plenty as soon as those crews have finished dealing with the storm damage in their areas.

“We ask residents to call the faults line on 0800-206-207 to report any power issues at their place.

“Treat all lines as live at all times.

“We’ll post more updates on the Eastland Network Facebook page as progress is made.”
