Opinion
Once again we have the pathetic situation of the Waioeka Gorge being unnecessarily closed for a prolonged period due to the tortoise momentum of NZTA and its geotechnical engineers. Don’t these people have any idea about economic imperatives and the absolute inconvenience of their procrastinations?
Certainly I understand the need
for safety, but how many incidents have there ever been on this road from rocks hitting vehicles? There is almost always a few rocks to avoid on the road anyway.
They can attack this slip from both sides, it should have been open in 24 hours minimum. Set up spotlights and man it 24 hours to watch for any ongoing rock falls. We need this road open now!
