People will soon have the opportunity to buy art by well known local artists such as Graeme Mudge, Val Bos and Peter Ireland at an art sale which will benefit three local charities, but organiser Diana Whakapapa is seeking more donations.

She had the idea for the art sale after she and partner Norman downsized their Okitu home and moved into a tiny house.

“Norman and I had a lot of art and suddenly nowhere to hang it so we decided to organise the art sale with all proceeds going to the Gisborne Mayoral Relief Fund, Gizzy Kai Rescue and SuperGrans,” Ms Whakapapa said.

With around 100 pieces already collected Ms Whakapapa wants to add to this and is trying to get the word out to people who may have art they no longer want.

“Have you got artworks sitting in the garage that no longer match your decor? They may bring a lot of joy to someone else,” she says.

The art up for sale includes paintings, prints, glass, weaving, drawings and pottery.

“We have work by Zoe Alford and Tawera Tuhiri — people have been very generous.”

Proceeds of the art sale will go towards helping those who have suffered hardship after Cyclone Gabrielle.

The event is an opportunity for the community to come together, support good causes and brighten up living and work spaces with artwork.

• The Art Sale is on August 19 at St Andrews Community Centre in Cobden Street, from 2 -5pm. To donate artworks ring 867-2790.
