The trailer suction dredge Kawatiri has been back at Eastland Port this week carrying out some dredging work in the harbour navigation channel and turning basin. The dredge is scheduled to have the work completed by early December.

“We expect it to shift about 30,000 cubic metres of material from the seabed along the channel, and in the turning basin,” a port official said.

“The stormier conditions over winter caused more in-filling of the channel than normal, so a larger dredge was needed to restore our channel depth.”
