Chance to learn from the best

As part of the Chamber Music NZ and Gisborne International Music Competition (GIMC) partnership, an all-ages percussion workshop led by Steven Logan is being held in Gisborne and everyone is welcome.

Logan is principal timpanist and percussionist for the Auckland Philarmonica Orchestra (APO), and he plans to start the workshop with a demonstration using different percussion instruments before delving into the process of using percussion in recording and bands.

Before he joined the APO, Logan performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Santa Monica Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic and the National Repertory Orchestra among others.

As well as playing in the orchestra, he sings in the APO All Star Rhythm and Blues Band, and performs combinations of guitar, vocals and piano on his nights off.

He is a JG Percussion artist and an alumnus of the University of Southern California and Rice University.
