“Youth have been actively volunteering throughout the year, advocating for climate change, coaching sports teams, helping at events, mentoring and assisting others.
“They have generously given their precious time for the benefit of others.”
Nominations close on May 31 and GVC is are hoping to hold the event during National Volunteer Week in June.
GVC has been running this event for around 11 years and last year recognised 29 young people.
Mrs Greaves said during the Covid-19 lockdown and subsequent alert levels there were still quite a few people signing up with the centre.
But like the rest of the country, they found there were more volunteers than roles available as most organisations used their existing volunteers and kept to a small base.
Councils and other groups like iwi organisations mobilised their own staff.
“We have continued working through each level from our homes, supporting volunteer organisations.”
