Tairāwhiti Multicultural Council (TMC) is gearing up for the much-anticipated return of the Colour Run for Diversity 2024, an event that celebrates unity, inclusivity and cultural diversity.

Taking place from 11am this  Saturday at Marina Park, the vibrant and lively event is about fun, togetherness and celebrating  our shared community . . . with a lot of powdered colour involved.

It is important to note the colour powder used during the run is organic — made of corn starch and rice flour — to ensure a safe and environmentally friendly experience for all.

The Colour Run for Diversity, which follows a 2.5-kilometre loop path around the rivers,  serves as a powerful platform to foster unity and collaboration among the multicultural communities in Tairāwhiti.

The event encourages participants from diverse backgrounds to come together and initiate dialogue and conversations for a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich tapestry of customs, languages, religions and cultures that enrich the region.

It promotes inclusion and a sense of belonging, regardless of cultural or social backgrounds, through participation in a fun and colourful event.

The aim is for everyone to experience a sense of unity along with a feeling of being valued for their individuality.

The International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination was observed on March 21  and the Colour Run for Diversity underscores the commitment to fostering an environment where differences are respected, embraced and celebrated.

The event will once again feature an array of vibrant colours, exciting activities and kai from various countries.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at 10.45am for an 11am start.

Koha contributions are welcomed and attendees have the opportunity to buy event T-shirts for $15 on the day (cash or bank payment only).

“The Colour Run for Diversity is a testament to the spirit of inclusivity and celebration that defines our community. We invite everyone to join us on April 13th at Marina Park, Gisborne, for a day of joy, unity, and cultural appreciation,” said TMC president Arish Naresh.
