THE Warehouse carpark will be evacuated on Sunday to make way for a new type of activity, a Children’s Day event like no other.

From 10am to 1pm the area will be buzzing with stalls, games, giveaways and entertainment.

More than 30 local community organisations and businesses have come together to provide everything from a petting zoo to face painting.

“It’s a great way of connecting communities,” said Barnardos violence-free Tairawhiti network administrator and event organiser Wendy Miller.

The Warehouse has come on board and as well as providing the space and amenities, has donated lots of prizes, she said.

“The Warehouse is strong on connecting communities and helping Gisborne families thrive as part of Pedal for Plunket.”

Children’s Day is a nationwide celebration with a focus on treasuring our children. The tooth fairy will be there to promote healthy eating, with lots of fruit, veges and water giveaways throughout the event.

Games organised by the YMCA and Sport Gisborne will get the kids active. With a bike decorating competition and boxes of books donated by the Gisborne library, all tastes will be catered for.

Radio announcer The Wiz will MC the event, with singers and dancers providing entertainment.

Plunket, The Kindergarten Assocation and iwi are also involved in organising what promises to be a great family event.
