A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

A car was burnt out in suspicious circumstances on the Wharekopae Road in the early hours of yesterday morning. Police have an inquiry under way.

Fire and Emergency NZ sent crews from Gisborne and Patutahi at around 4am.“The car was fully involved in fire when the first crew arrived,” a senior firefighter said.

“There was no one with the vehicle.”

The cause of the blaze was treated as suspicious and police were called in, he said.

The vehicle was on the side of the road about 100 metres along the Wharekopae Road from the Waipaoa River bridge roundabout.
