Burglars struck at the BP 2go Kaiti service station in Wainui Road in the early hours of yesterday morning, making off with a range of items.

Police received a report about the burglary at about 12.40am.

“A group of offenders entered the premises, took some items and fled in two stolen vehicles,” police said.

“Those vehicles were abandoned and located shortly afterwards by police.”

The thieves smashed their way into the station through a window alongside the customer service area.

“Inquiries are ongoing to ascertain what was taken and to identify and locate the offenders.”

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact police on the 105 number and quote the file number 230212/4086.

The smashed window was boarded up yesterday and the service station was closed.

The service station management posted on social media yesterday that the thieves caused significant damage to cabinets and tills.

“Thankfully no staff were on site at the time of the robbery and no one was harmed.”

It was the second time in a month that a service station has been broken into in Gisborne.

The Challenge service station in Gladstone Road was targeted similarly on January 23.
