RECENT rain and a rising schedule caused prices to firm again at yesterday’s Matawhero sheep sale where there was another large entry of 3471.

Mixed-age ewes dominated the prime pens; best price here was $153 for a pen of eight from Raroa Station at Tolaga Bay.

The highest price for store male lambs was $131 for 54 from Bushy Knoll Forest Ltd at Hangaroa, who also topped the store ewe lambs with $120 paid for a pen of 77.

There were six pens of scanned-in-lamb ewes, Puketia Station P/S at Te Wera receiving $151 for 107 two tooth ewes SIL at 157 percent, mated to a Charolais ram on March 10. A pen of 160 healthy six-year ewes SIL with triplets was passed in.
