QUICK work by a neighbour stopped a potential fire in its tracks yesterday when they saw smoke pouring from a barbecue unit on the patio of the house next door.
The fire service got a call to a house in Pine Street, Mangapapa at about 4.30pm.
“A resident was using
the barbie to cook a roast of meat when the fat being used caught alight,” a senior firefighter said.
“The neighbour saw it happening, rushed next door and turned off the gas to the barbecue.
“Fair to say the meat inside the cooker was ‘well done’.
