Gisborne continues to enjoy daytime temperatures averaging two degrees warmer than usual for the time of year.

Sunday nearly reached the all-time record for July, with the mercury rising to 21 degrees.

That was just a fraction off the 21.2 degrees recorded on July 15, 1964.

Sunday was almost seven degrees warmer than the 30-year average for daytime highs in Gisborne in July.

It has been warm overnight too, with temperatures over the past few nights around the 10-11 degree mark.

With half the month gone, daytime highs are running at an average of almost 16.7 degrees — two-and-a-half degrees above the 30-year average of 14.2.

The overnight minimums have been averaging 5.2 degrees — virtually the 30-year average — but the past few warm nights have been around five degrees warmer than usual.

Northerly winds are expected for the next three to four days, so the warm conditions will continue.
