The pregnant woman who suffered a serious head injury in the head-on smash yesterday is reported to be in a stable condition in Gisborne Hospital.

She was a passenger in the car involved in the crash with a ute, mid-morning just south of Oneroa Road at Wainui on State Highway 35.

The 21-year-old woman was the only one of four people injured in the crash admitted to hospital.

The other three people were treated and discharged

Police continue their serious crash inquiry into the incident.
