Opinion
I would like to thank the people who came to my assistance when my vehicle was hit by a driver evading the police on January 31. Your care towards me was one of the positives, along with the fact I was not significantly hurt and I didn’t have a grandchild
in the child restraint. It is wonderful to know that people will step forward to support a stranger in need. Thank you.
I also appreciated the professional and caring response from the ambulance officers who responded to?calls from the public. Thanks to you as well.
While I am aware that the responsibility for the incident lies with the driver of the evading car, I was concerned about some of the issues around this incident and have discussed these with Sam Aberahama. I know that my positive conversations with the police were reflected on and hope these reflections lead to some response changes by the police should anyone else on the road be “taken out” in similar circumstances.
Further fallout from being hit is that I am still without a vehicle and have had to call on friends and family to transport me to work and back. From an insurance perspective, as I do not know the details of the person who hit me, I lose my no-claims bonus and must pay the excess.
To finish on a positive note, no one else was injured either — another stroke of good luck. As one the people who came to help me said, they knew straight away what had happened as they were nearly taken out just beforehand on the Stanley Road roundabout by the speeding vehicle.
