Arrests over Edison Street shooting

Police have arrested and charged two men in relation to a shooting incident at a house in Edison Street in outer Kaiti on Saturday.

They have yet to locate the person who pulled the trigger.

A 21-year-old man shot in the leg during the incident remains in a stable condition in Gisborne Hospital.

“Two men, aged 30 and 31, were taken into custody at an address in Kaiti and they face a range of charges,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Ford.

“They've been charged with commissioning a crime with a firearm, threatening to kill, unlawful assembly and possession of an offensive weapon.”

They made initial appearances in the Gisborne District Court yesterday.

“We are still looking to locate other people who were in the group who went to the property, including the person who fired the firearm involved,” Det Snr Sgt Ford said.

The incident happened at around midday on Saturday.

Police have received video of the incident that has helped them with their inquiries.
