A man has been taken into custody following two burglaries in Gisborne last week, police say.

“On Wednesday, October 11, police were alerted to a burglary at a store on Gladstone Road,” Tairāwhiti Detective Sergeant Brent Griffiths said.

“On Sunday, October 15, police were alerted to another burglary at a restaurant on Bright Street between the hours of 10pm and 12am.

“Police conducted scene examinations and viewed CCTV footage at both addresses.

“Gisborne police yesterday arrested a 40-year-old man on Gladstone Road.”

He was due to appear in the Gisborne District Court yesterday on four charges of burglary.

“This is a very good outcome for the Gisborne community and the volume crime team who have worked very hard to prevent further offending and hold someone to account,” a police spokesman said.

“We ask if anyone sees any suspicious activity please report it to police. You can contact police on 111 if it is happening now or 105 if it is after the fact.”
