Contractors across the region are working flat out on many sites, dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle. At Anzac Park, the task of removing silt continues, while at Turihaua work is being done to put in extra protection for the bridge there. Thirteen roads around the district remain closed and 30 are under restrictions. Picture by Ben Cowper
Three months on from Cyclone Gabrielle the clean-up continues at Anzac Park.
Anzac Park was one of the worst hit places in the city centre in the wake of February’s cyclone and the park remains closed.
Gisborne District Council liveable communities director Michele Frey said it was expected to open
again in about a month.
“There’s lots of work still to be done. Weather permitting, we are hoping to have all the silt removed and the reserve re-opened in mid-June.
“We will know the full quantity of the silt removed after we’ve finished, as contractors are keeping track.
