I have read with interest the letters and articles written by Tony Robinson about the Gisborne District Council buildings. I took the view that there must be a reasonable answer to the points Tony raised. I have waited, and waited. But nothing constructive has come from the council or any of the council officers. A reasoned answer would be simple — give us the figures namely:

a.) The costs to repair each building so as to comply with earthquake requirements. These requirements are now less stringent than some time ago.

b.) The cost to replace each building with a new one, together with demolition costs and debris removal.

I am not including Lawson Field theatre in this request as I think the theatre is to be strengthened.

I have no axe to grind. I simply would like to know.
