The day after the Waitangi Day holiday, Waikanae Beach was a little quieter for  Rory Hawkins, Kauri Hawkins and Munna Chung from Melbourne.

Rory is originally from Gisborne but has been in Melbourne for about 12 years.

It was another hot day in the city on Wednesday, following on from the first 30-plus-degrees day of the summer on Waitangi Day.

The mercury hit an official high of 31.8 degrees at around 4pm.

Yesterday wasn’t quite as hot, according to MetService — a high of 29.6 at 4pm.
