Re the public presentation last night launching the Matai Medical Research Institute.
What an exciting development for Tairawhiti! Congratulations to Dr Samantha Holdsworth, a local woman who has returned home after gaining years of research experience in Australia and America. She has involved a highly-experienced team of medical experts in
this project with a view to improve the health outcomes for everyone in this area and beyond, particularly in the area of brain (concussion) and heart disease.
It was a privilege to hear a number of researchers talk about the goals of this initiative and links to the University of Auckland and other international research facilities. Each speaker provided interesting insights to the expanse of the institute. It was great to hear from another local who has returned home and will work as a research collaborator for Matai, Dr Cassidy Moeke.
A big thank you to all who have provided funding including the Government’s Provincial Growth Fund and Eastland Community Trust as well as private benefactors.
We can all feel proud of what is happening in Tairawhiti and the potential to promote employment opportunities here.
