The circus came to town for Te Hapara School on Monday.

Otherwise known as Clint Woodvine, Mr Circus is a one-man travelling show visiting schools across New Zealand.

He had a keen audience of excited and enthusiastic children at Te Hapara School.

“So much fun . . . just outstanding,” said principal Linda Savage.

She planned the visit for this term after a recommendation from Wainui Beach School, where Mr Circus played last year.

“It was a whole new experience for them, and really entertaining,” she said.

The 45-minute  act showcased circus skills such as juggling plates on sticks, unicycle tricks and fire poi (not real fire).  Teachers and students were encouraged to get involved on stage.

Woodvine was described as being full of energy, keeping some 220 kids engaged with his show.

Workshops followed throughout the day where different age groups of students were able to have a go at learning circus skills.  Mrs Savage said it was all about stepping outside their comfort zone and trying things they hadn’t before.

“I didn’t see any kids giving up — they were really pushing themselves,” she said.

They learned skills like coordination and interaction while having fun. There was lots of laughter, with everyone joining in.

“It was a really amazing and entertaining day,” Mrs Savage said.
