Tairawhiti Multicultural Food Festival - Meredith Jassnoor Kaur Khalsa, Arish Naresh and Rizwana Latif

Tairawhiti Multicultural Food Festival - Meredith Jassnoor Kaur Khalsa, Arish Naresh and Rizwana Latif

A successful fundraising event hosted recently by Tairāwhiti Multicultural Council (TMC) showcased culinary delights from South America, Asia, Africa and the Pacific.

The Food Festival was held at Gisborne Boys’ High School and attracted overwhelming support from a vibrant and diverse local  community.

Through food sales and donations, the International Food Festival raised an impressive $2450.

All funds raised were donated to UNICEF New Zealand’s Gaza appeal, which is contributing to the vital humanitarian efforts needed in this region.

TMC attributes the success of the event to “the incredible support of the community and the tireless work of volunteers and donors of the culinary delights offered in the true spirit of unity and compassion”.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who attended, sampled the diverse cuisines and contributed to this charitable cause,” TMC president Arish Naresh said.

“The International Food Festival was a celebration of our diverse cultures and to see this celebration translate into tangible support for those in need is truly heart-warming.

“We are looking forward to the next food festival which will be held on March 8 near Marina Park.”

It aims to foster understanding, harmony and unity among the various communities that call Tairāwhiti home.
