Mokairau Herefords at Whangara enjoyed an almost total clearance yesterday morning in their rising two-year-old bull sale, with a top price of $11,000, and a better average across the sale than last year.

The stud sold 19 of their young bulls at auction, and two more in the yards afterwards, out of 23.

Their top-priced animal, Lot 20, was late in the catalogue, and along the way they had two bulls sell for $10,500.

“It was a good steady sale for us,” said studmaster Peter Reeves.

“The average of $7568 was up on last year, along with the number of bulls sold, so the whole family’s very happy with how it went.

“We had good steady bidding from a good bench of buyers, and the rain that poured down at times didn’t dampen their enthusiasm,” he said.

“The support we got from our regular buyers was humbling.”

PGG Wrightson genetics expert Emma Pollitt said the Mokairau bulls were well presented.

“They were a lovely line-up.

“All things considered, with the impact of the cyclones, the interest rate situation and so on, this was a good sale.”

Wilencote Herefords at Ngatapa sold their line-up yesterday afternoon, also on-farm.

That sale result and comment will be in tomorrow’s Herald.
