Opinion

As a mum of a beautiful transgender young person, it has been horrifying watching the actions of some people over the past couple of days. I don’t want to waste too much time on their hateful words and vandalism, because it is the beautiful response from our community that deserves attention and acknowledgment.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank our Mayor Rehette Stoltz for her immediate, strong and clear response in decrying their actions, and for the council’s quick action in getting the crossing repainted. You guys are awesome.

Also, to all the beautiful people in our city who have stood alongside our rainbow community, who sent messages of love and support, you have made our town feel safe again. You are wonderful people and you embody everything that is awesome about this city. Kia kaha.

Proud Mum
