KAHARAU Angus achieved a top price of $65,000, a near total clearance and an average of $12,500 across 64 bulls sold last night in their full on-farm rostrum in Goodwin Road.

Their best-priced animal, Lot 9, was bought by Ratanui Angus — owned by the Story family and now based at Tuai.

Kaharau sold more than half its line-up for five figures and better, including Lot 15 for $42,000, another for $21,500 and three for $20,000.

Studmaster Penny Hoogerbrug said they were “thrilled”.

“It was really heartening to see so many of our repeat clients coming back to support us because they have confidence in our breeding programme.

“It's great to see such support for the whole district. We are particularly thrilled that Lot 9 sold so well and we're really grateful for the strong support from commercial buyers.”

PGG Wrightson genetics representative Emma Pollitt was impressed.

“The bulls were of great quality and their quality was reflected in the sale.”

Auctioneer Neville Clark described them as a “star-studded line-up” before the bidding action started.

Afterwards he said it was a good sale that showed strength at the top end.

“The buyers who were prepared to pay for it got what they wanted, and the commercial bulls were well sought-after too. Overall they were an outstanding line of Angus cattle. The fruit is on the tree when you see these bulls here today.”
