50,000 expected for Mission concerts, care urged on roads

Go gentle, don’t do something stupid and have no regrets while tripping around Hawke’s Bay roads this weekend, was the message yesterday from Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

“They may be lyrics from Robbie Williams’ songs but they hold an important message — drive safely and to the conditions if you’re heading to Hawke’s Bay this Mission Concert weekend,” said Waka Kotahi journey manager for Hawke’s Bay, Andre Taylor.

Up to 50,000 people, including many from Tairāwhiti, are expected to attend the two concerts this weekend at the Napier-based winery.

“As people head away, knowledge is power,” Mr Taylor said.

“We encourage people to make use of our Journey Planner to plan ahead to avoid traffic delays and have a safer, more enjoyable journey.

“Roading crews have become familiar sights to people in the region over recent months, as access is restored and strengthened on the network.

“While more sites have been repaired, there is still traffic management in some places, especially on SH2 between Napier and Wairoa,” he said.

“It’s really important that while travelling around, people remember to drive to the conditions, and be aware of possible delays, temporary traffic management, and lower speeds in some places.

“Please be patient, give yourself extra travel time and take regular breaks on long journeys.”
