STAYING TRUE TO HIS ROOTS: Local artists Yung Maac and RVNNAH have released their latest single, Sideline, available on all streaming platforms. Picture supplied

Since making a splash on streaming services with their first collaboration 4 10 Shawty, Yung Maac and RVNNAH have since released Sideline, a high-energy rap single produced by multi-platinum award-winning producer StardustSzn.

Featuring a simple piano lead-line layered upon hard-hitting drums and string instruments, the beat complements the artists' youthful energy, unique lyrics and delivery.

Following on from their first single, Sideline continues the artists' story as they expand their world to listeners.

Making the most of the attention that they have gained online, the artists first teased the song through snippets on their Instagram and Snapchat, after which fans flooded their inboxes with requests for them to release the song.

“We were just trying to get some feedback from our listeners to see if they vibed with the song, and luckily it seemed as though they were on the same page as us, that this song goes hard,” Yung Maac said.

The artist has built momentum domestically and internationally through streaming services and Instagram, first gaining attention in 2019 with his song I Dreamt the Moon, which gained over 1.5 million streams.

Collaborating with artists such as Ashtrey and going viral online has helped Yung Maac towards achieving his musical ambitions.

In preparation for his debut album, he is looking forward to releasing more material for his listeners and wider audience to digest.

“I'm excited about my album because it is something I've worked on for almost two years, recording material and tweaking little things to build towards a proper body of work.

“My album will be full of energy, some psychedelic-inspired sounds, and you'll be able to feel the Gisborne in me through the lyrics and delivery,” Yung Maac said.

With a music video expected to drop for 4 10 Shawty and Sideline in the next few weeks, listeners can look forward to getting another peek into Yung Maac's world.

As he continues to make strides towards establishing his place within the New Zealand music scene, the artist is staying true to his roots in Sideline, connecting Gisborne to the rest of the world through his sound.

Sideline by Yung Maac and RVNNAH can be found on all streaming platforms. Follow @yung_maac on Instagram for updates.
