It turns out hardly anyone else wants to pull their eardrums out when they hear the infectious tune Why Does Love Do This To Me. This could be one reason why venues for The Jordan Luck Band’s winter tour sell out so fast.

in 2009, the popular tune’s title is the name of the band’s tour that brings them to Smash Palace next week. Along with the catchy hit, the band will perform classic numbers by 1980s Kiwi band The Exponents.
Formed by Luck in 1981, The Exponents began life as a five-piece called Dance Exponents. Their debut single Victoria made the top 10 hit list and signified the beginning of a string of hits. By the early 1990s the band had cut its name down to The Exponents and the group recorded the biggest hits of its career with Why Does Love Do This To Me and its equally catchy Who Loves Who The Most. By the end of the 20th century, The Exponents made their last New Zealand tour in support of their final album Hello, Love You, Goodbye. The Jordan Luck Band came about in the early 2000s when Luck formed his own band and played The Exponents songs along with new works by songwriting partner Bryan Bell.
A TV documentary about the band screened in 2013. Out of the documentary sessions in Neil Finn’s studio came a new album, Eight Days At Roundhead.
Two years ago, The Exponents were recipients of the New Zealand Herald Legacy Award, a tribute to Kiwi artists who have helped shape the New Zealand music industry. In the same year, The Exponents were also inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame. When band member Dave Barraclough died from pancreatic cancer this year, Luck announced there would be no funeral.
