Never mind Freddie Kruger in his Dennis the Menace skivvy; show the stretch-faced Scream phantom the hand, and stick it to The Ring — because here comes The Deadset 5.

Presented by Gisborne metal act Harbinger for Halloween, The Deadset 5 is not so much a dia de muertos as a homage, a tribute made up of songs from fallen legends such as David Bowie, Led Zeppelin's drummer John Bonham, Freddie Mercury of Queen, and Cream's drummer Ginger Baker and bass player Jack Bruce.

A couple of Van Halen numbers will also be included.

“Harbinger is usually a metal band but we all love those legends and this is an opportunity to do something different,” says Harbinger's bass player Vincent Hogan.

“It's always a big night. We have people jump up to play throughout the evening.”

The Deadset playlist even includes a performance of heavy metal band Metallica's No Leaf Clover as a salute to San Francisco Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) arranger and conductor Mike Kamen. In 1999, Kamen worked with Metallica and the SFSO to record a two-day concert the song features in.

Support act Shadows in the Darkness will help set the tone of the evening.

It'll be worth the dig, to paraphrase the Marquis de Sade in the play Quills.
