■ Triangle of Sadness

Social influencers Carl and Yaya are invited on to a luxury cruise ship alongside a group of out-of-touch wealthy people. Then a brutal storm hits the ship, pirates attack and some of the guests escape to an island. There, roles reverse, and a cleaning woman becomes leader of the group because she is the only one with the necessary survival skills — she can catch fish and start a fire. Stars Harris Dickinson, Dolly de Leon, Woody Harrelson and Charlbi Dean (in her last role; last August she died of bacterial sepsis, caused by bacteria to which she was more susceptible because her spleen was removed after a 2008 car crash).

■ Paper Spiders

Recently widowed Dawn (Lili Taylor) experiences growing anxiety as her daughter Melanie (Stefania LaVie Owen) plans to move away for college. An argument with a hostile new neighbour aggravates Dawn’s mental condition and she begins to exhibit signs of persecutory delusional disorder. Melanie tries a series of interventions to help her mother, but Dawn’s paranoia spirals out of control. Challenging Dawn’s reality of persecution threatens to destroy their relationship.
