Two bored kids. One rainy day. Enter a cat in a red-striped hat and a penchant for repetitive and often rhyming lines. The Cat in The Hat interrupts the rainy afternoon with his unexpected visit to Sally and her brother’s home. Their outspoken pet Fish is astounded but the catin the stripy hat will not be deterred, no he will not, he needs to be heard. He will teach us all to make our own fun with nothing but a little imagination.

Theodor Seuss Geisel used only 200 words to write his second children’s book as Dr Seuss. More than 50 years later, The Cat in the Hat is a children’s classic and now a zany play adapted for the stage in 2009 by the National Theatre of Britain.
