Spiced with 19th century German composer Robert Schumann’s Pictures from the East pianist Yen-Ting Wang’s programme presents an opportunity for the Taiwanese pianist to share the keyboard with Tony Chen Lin.
Lin performs at the Lawson Field Theatre tonight but next week he will join Wang at Tiromoana, Wainui, for
Musica Viva’s last concert of the year.
Wang’s programme of solos and duets includes Beethoven’s Sonata in A-flat, Schumann’s Sonata in F-sharp minor, and Mozart’s Sonata in D major. Inspired by a genre of Arab rhymed prose by medieval poet Hariri, Schumann’s Pictures from the East is a work for four hands so will be performed by Wang and Lin.
After making her debut in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall five years ago Wang is following her career as a soloist and a collaborative pianist in Europe. She has performed on stages in the UK, Europe and the US. Noted for her skill in collaboration, Wang’s achievements include the Accompanist Prize for the Stuart Cameron Smith French Song Prize. She was recently invited as a collaborative pianist in Euro Arts Music Festival in Halle, Germany. Wang has now been appointed for the job as ballet repetiteur at the College of Music and Theatre in Munich.
Her performances in Europe include venues such as Berlin’s Universitat der Kunste and the Solti concert hall in Budapest, the city where both Lin and Wang are based.
