DAR UNA BUENA ACOGIDA: Welcome back to Gisborne pianist Lorelle McNaughton who performs at Tairawhiti Museum on Sunday. Picture supplied

After performing in Gisborne last year from a programme that included works by Spanish composers, New Zealand pianist Lorelle McNaughton recently featured as special guest at the Oceania exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

There, she performed on contemporary artist Michael Parekowhai's intricately carved, red, grand piano He Korero Purakau mo Te Awanui o Te Motu: story of a New Zealand river.

Sponsored once again by Professor Jack Richards, McNaughton is returning to Gisborne to perform at Tairawhiti Museum on Sunday.

After almost 10 years living abroad, McNaughton has recently come back to New Zealand where she teaches music and continues a successful career as a solo and collaborative pianist.

A New Zealander of Scottish and Maori-Chinese descent, McNaughton's passion for Spanish music took her to Barcelona where she was awarded the prize for best performance of Spanish Music at the International Barcelona Piano Academy. Sh was based at the city's Academia Marshall but has now come home.
