When surf/artist Brett Summerlee lost a mate to suicide he and another friend wanted to do something to support mental health workers.

Miharo Gallery owner Rosie Cruddas whole-heartedly agreed to host an auction of donated artworks to help raise funds for whichever cause Summerlee and his surfing mate decided on.

Cruddas and Summerlee approached various artists with the idea and were overwhelmed with the number of contributions.

Among them is a Tony Ogle screen-print (pictured) and a work by Dick Frizzell.

All proceeds will go to the Mahisian Wave Warriors, and Moko Turongo.

“The Mahisian Wave Warriors are getting kids into the ocean but also providing support networks for adults,” Summerlee told Cruddas in an online interview.

Moko Turonga Wananga is dedicated to supporting Tairawhiti whanau who are dealing with the effects of whakamomori (suicide).
