Summertime, and hair gets lighter, skin gets darker, water gets warmer, drinks get colder, and on the East Coast, residents and visitors are spoiled for choice for live music.

R&V, DECEMBER 29-31The apex event of the season is the three-day Rhythm and Vines (R&V) festival when international acts such as Schoolboy Q, Belgian electronic superstars 2manydjs, and New Zealand acts that include David Dallas, the “Prince of Waiohika” P-Money, and Yoko Zuna hit the stages.

Canadian DJ REZZ has had to cancel her appearance at this year’s festival but to cheer people up, the new Garden Stage hosts the Giggle and Vines comedy segment with Australian stand-up act Heath Franklin’s Chopper as well as Kiwi comedians Simon McKinney, David Correos, Melanie Bracewell and Will Wood.

McKinney’s style is described as “clean, warm and generous” while Filipino comic and 2016 Billy T James award winner Correos brings “full noise nonsense” to his act.

National finalist in the 2011 Raw Comedy Competition, a professional stand-up comedian, trained actor, and voice-over artist Will Wood has appeared in TV shows such as Te Radar’s Checkered Past, and Super City II.
