Gizzy musos have collaborated to bring together seven acts for NZ Music Month this May.

Smash Palace will host GizzyBorn a local artist showcase on Saturday night.

Acts taking the stage are ‘The Voles’, ‘Natasha Lee’, ‘Levi Mackey’, ‘JamSolo’, ‘Model Citizen’, ‘Hide the Pain, Harry’, and ‘With Strings Attached’.

The gig starts at 6.30pm and runs until 12.30am.

Musician Natasha (Lee) Olsen said: “With a unique and diverse line-up pulled from our local music scene, artists will perform soulful ballads to upbeat rock hits. The line-up is a cross-section of familiar and new faces.

“With the focus of NZ Music Month this year highlighting the benefits of community and collaboration within the music industry, the seven local acts were eager to be involved. They plan to share their own original music, as well as covering some well known Kiwi songs on the night.

“We wanted to share some of the immense talent that exists in our local music community,” she said.

‘Levi Mackey’, ‘Natasha Lee’ and ‘Jam Solo’ will be starting the night with their incredible solo sets before bands ‘Model Citizen’, ‘Hide the Pain, Harry’, ‘With Strings Attached’ and ‘The Voles’ light up the stage.

Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa 2023 (NZ Music Month), is celebrating “community and collaboration”.

This year’s theme is about working together to build a more connected and collaborative musical landscape across Aotearoa, from songwriting experiments, content co-creation, partnerships to engage and grow audiences, right through to community events.

Rodney Fisher, of the NZ Music Commission, says 2023’s “community and collaboration” theme is about “thinking outside the box to explore what is possible when people work together”.

“In NZ Music Month 2023 we want to celebrate the amazing artists we have in Aotearoa and the work both artists and people across the music sector do building a connected local community,” he said.

For artists keen to get involved, Fisher says it could be as simple as sharing a social media post profiling their favourite local collaborations, right through to collaborating with an artist to create a new track, or cover version.

From an industry perspective, it’s about supporting and building the music community and championing collaboration to reach a wider audience.

A huge range of celebrations, new releases, artist tours, initiatives and special events will be rolling out nationwide during May.
