To help keep the Gisborne community theatre flame alive, Evolution Theatre Company is staging a 48-Hour Virtual Play Festival.

Registrations for the festival close tonight, and at 7pm, entrants will be given the theme, prop and text that they must work with.

Costumes and props must be comprised of items found on team members’ premises.

Teams are to be made up of a minimum of four members — two actors, one writer, one director. A fifth member can join to deal with technical challenges. The rules of Alert Level 3 isolation must be adhered to.

Teams need to have registered by emailing info@evolutiontheatre.org.nz no later than 7pm tonight.

The play festival kicks off at 7pm tomorrow and all plays will be performed on Zoom on Sunday 7pm.

The mini productions will be recorded by the Evolution Theatre Company for publication on social media. The recordings will be uploaded to the theatre’s YouTube channel which is when voting begins.

The challenge will be judged by popular vote from the online audience who will use a Google form prepared for the event.
