Rock Steady Supergroup headed this way

SUPERPOWERS: Musicians from 1970s rock bands Bad Company and Foreigner have joined forces to create Rock Steady Supergroup and are now headed this way. Picture supplied

Time magazine once quipped that the supergroup, a band whose members were previously successful as solo artists or as part of other groups, was little more than an “amalgam formed by the talented malcontents of other bands”.

Now Gisborne is about to be rocked by talented malcontents from multi-platinum selling bands from the 1970s Bad Company and Foreigner who, between themselves, have spawned the Rock Steady Supergroup.

The supergroup will play hits from Bad Company, Free, and Foreigner.

Rock Steady is made up of former Bad Company/Humble Pie guitarist Dave “Bucket” Colwell whose 2010 debut solo album featured guest performances from members of Iron Maiden, Thunder and The Quireboys and others.

Bass guitarist Rick Wills is best known for his work with Foreigner and his associations with the Small Faces, Peter Frampton and Bad Company. Those who saw the Gisborne screening of former Pink Floyd artist David Gilmour’s Live at Pompeii will remember Wills as the casual but charismatic bass player.

Vocalist Ronan Kavanagh has recorded with the likes of Jeff Beck, Brian May of Queen, Bad Company’s Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell, the Who, and Wills. He also toured Europe as support act for the Simply Red Arena tour. New Zealand musician Gordon Joll features as special guest with the supergroup. Joll is described as a drummer of world class status who has played a part in shaping New Zealand’s musical history for more than 40 years. The recently inducted member of the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame. has drummed for acts such as Joe Walsh, Herbs, Hello Sailor, Rock Candy, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, Billy T. James, Tom Sharplin, Hammond Gamble and The Mockers.
