The big swing sound of Glenn Miller and the big band era comes this way with trumpeter Mike Booth.

Booth is responsible for music arrangements for the show and promises hits such as In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo, At Last, Over the Rainbow, Big Spender, and Zing Went the Strings of my Heart.

“We have some Miller hits and there are quite a few arrangements and songs I'm sure people are going to enjoy and sing along to.”

The Auckland University jazz trumpet tutor recently returned from a tour to the US with the Rodger Fox Big Band. The Wellington-based band performed at a jazz educators network conference in New Orleans and spent five days in New York's Bunker Studio where they recorded a new album. The band also played at New York venue Space Shifter Lounge.

“We saw heaps of music and tourist sights, but for me, a highlight of the trip musically was to see the Count Basie Orchestra at Birdland,” says Booth.

“The intimate setting made it a special night.”

Mike Booth is part of a five-piece brass band and Operatunity singers who will perform their tribute to Glenn Miller and the big band era at the War Memorial Theatre on Wednesday, March 18 at 11am.
